How To Obtain Your Texas Crash Report

If you have been injured in a car wreck in Texas your attorney will likely request a copy of your crash report. This report will help build your case against the other driver and assist the insurance company in determining liability. Crash reports are typically made available within 10 days of your wreck by the Texas Department of Transportation(TxDot).

For a small fee you can download a certified copy of your crash report online, by simply visiting www.txdot.gov. If the TxDot system is unable to locate your crash using the information you provide such as your name, date of the crash and location of the crash you will instead have to order it via mail.

Alternatively, if you are given a citizens information card at the site of the crash call the number on the card and provide the sheriff and/or police clerk with the case number on the card. After providing the case number the clerk may be able to give you a TxDot crash ID that you can use to locate your crash report using the TxDot online system.
